Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response identifies the main features of the graphs, such as the general trend of higher licence ownership in men and the increase over time. However, the reporting of data is inconsistent and sometimes confusing. For instance, the comparison between 1975/76 and 2006 is often muddled, and the description of age groups is fragmented. The summary lacks a clear overview, as the second paragraph repeats the prompt rather than synthesizing the data. To improve, ensure that data points are clearly linked to the correct year and category, and focus on highlighting the most significant trends rather than listing individual figures.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a logical structure. The introduction is repetitive, and the body paragraphs are not clearly organized by theme or trend. Cohesive devices are largely absent or misused, such as the abrupt transition 'THe licence holder age group' and the incomplete sentence at the end. Paragraphing is insufficient, making the progression of ideas difficult to follow. To improve, use clear topic sentences for each paragraph and employ linking words like 'in contrast,' 'furthermore,' or 'consequently' to connect ideas and data points more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on words from the prompt such as 'licence,' 'holders,' 'men,' and 'women.' There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'Britian' and 'ccompar.' The range of vocabulary is limited, which restricts the ability to describe trends with precision. To reach a higher band, incorporate a wider variety of verbs and nouns to describe data, such as 'proportion,' 'fluctuate,' 'climb,' or 'significant,' and ensure accurate spelling throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The both graphs illustrates'), incorrect article usage, and awkward sentence construction. Complex sentence structures are attempted but often result in errors, such as the confusing phrasing in the description of the 30-39 age group. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structure, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for minor mechanical errors before finalizing the text.
