Student answer (Band 5.5)

The percentage of individuals who holding full driving licenses in Great Britain by their age and gender is illustrated by rendered bar graph.

Overall, it is crystal clear that the proportion of men was highest as compared to women in case of driving licenses.

Having a quick glance, it is evident that the percentrum of senior males was maximum in 2006 which was followed by 30-39 age group with more than 80% in the same year. In the case of 1975-76, the interest of males in holding a full car driving license was least as comparable to 2006. Interestingly, the percentage of younger boys was almost similar in the both years.

Moving towards the rest of the information, the least preference to holding a car driving license was given by grey haired women in both years. In contrast, the females of age 30-59 were accounted at maximum percentile with almost 80%. The difference of 50% was shown in the age group of 60-69. The younger girls was more than 20% and exact 20% holding a driving license in 2006 and 1975-76 respectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data, such as the overall higher percentage of male licence holders and the age-related trends. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the term 'percentrum' is incorrect, and the description of the data for 1975-76 and 2006 is occasionally confusing or inaccurate in its interpretation of the graph's trends. While the key features are identified, the comparison between the two years could be more precise. The response would benefit from a more structured approach to grouping the data by age categories to ensure all relevant comparisons are clearly highlighted.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'Moving towards the rest of the information'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to track which specific data points are being compared. While there is a logical progression, the flow between sentences could be smoother to better connect the comparisons between age groups and years. Overall, the structure is sufficient but lacks the sophistication required for a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary range is adequate for the task but contains several non-standard or misused terms, such as 'percentrum' instead of 'percentage', and 'grey haired women' which is informal and imprecise for an academic report. There are also issues with collocation, such as 'accounted at maximum percentile'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of precision and the use of informal phrasing limit the score. To improve, focus on using more academic terminology and ensuring that words are used in their correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'individuals who holding' (should be 'who hold'), 'younger girls was' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'in the both years'. Punctuation is generally functional, but the recurring errors in basic grammar and verb forms detract from the clarity of the writing. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. More attention to subject-verb agreement and article usage is needed.
