Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to clearly identify the main trends or make meaningful comparisons. The information provided is often inaccurate or confusing, such as the claim that 'women gain more number of license than men' in 1975/76, which is not supported by the provided graph. The data points cited are frequently misread or presented in a way that obscures the actual trends. There is a lack of a clear overview, and the report does not effectively highlight the significant differences between age groups or the shift over time. The response struggles to present a clear summary of the key features.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed and confusing. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and often mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'also' and 'in 1975 and 2006'. The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow which age group or gender is being discussed. The lack of logical flow between sentences and the absence of a clear structure for comparing the data significantly hinder the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying on a limited set of words like 'license', 'record', and 'ratio'. There are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'holds license very less' instead of 'holds fewer licenses' or 'a lower percentage of licenses'. The spelling of 'INDIVDUALS' is incorrect. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data with the necessary precision required for an Academic Task 1 response, often leading to ambiguity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'people... holds' and 'women has'. Sentence structures are simple and often lack proper punctuation or logical connection. The misuse of tenses and articles is pervasive throughout the text. While the writer attempts to use some complex structures, they are frequently faulty, leading to a lack of clarity in the information being presented. The control of grammar is weak, and errors are present in almost every sentence.
