Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given bar graphs information about vehicle driving licence holders with various ages and sexes in Britain and the time period was1975, 1976 and 2006.

Overall, it is clearly mentioned that males have comparatively more driving licences than females throughout the time period. Meanwhile, same percentage were noticed in young boys and girls.

To begin with, the minimum ratio of driving holders were observed in teenagers in the following years. which was around 40% in boys and around 25% in girls. But lowest number of females were notified in 1975 and 1976. Now moving forward to the adult age between 21to 29 and 30 to 39 the percentage of men was more as compare to women. In 1975 and 1976 around 80% in men. However, only 40% reported in women. After three decades the amount of driving licence in women was jumped to approximately 80%.

Furthermore, the given population 40 and above the average ratio of driving licence was remained same as the age 30 to 39. Now turning to the senior citizen group, again males have larger number of licenses than females. Moreover, the ratio of males and females drivers were increased in 2006. Lastly, the number old women was noticed only 5% in 1976 but the ratio was gradually increased.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the data, such as the gender gap and the general increase in licence holders over time. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the statement that the percentage of licence holders remained the same for those aged 40 and above is not clearly supported by the data provided. Additionally, some comparisons are vague, such as 'the ratio... were increased in 2006'. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that all data points mentioned are accurate and that the trends are described with greater precision, focusing on the most significant differences between the age groups and the years provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is a clear introduction and an overall summary. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Now moving forward to' and 'Now turning to'. The progression of ideas within paragraphs is occasionally disjointed, particularly in the third paragraph where the transition between age groups feels abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the logical flow of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the trends. You use terms like 'ratio', 'percentage', and 'senior citizen group' appropriately. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'the amount of driving licence... was jumped' and 'the given population 40 and above'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your report. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and ensuring that nouns and verbs agree in context, such as using 'proportion' instead of 'ratio' when referring to percentages.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the minimum ratio... were observed', 'the number old women was noticed') and preposition usage. There are also issues with sentence fragments, such as 'which was around 40% in boys and around 25% in girls.' While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning, they occur frequently enough to keep the score in the 5.5 to 6.0 range. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be beneficial.
