Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you identify some main features, the analysis is incomplete and the conclusion is cut off mid-sentence. You attempt to compare the data across the two time periods, but the lack of sufficient detail and the failure to complete the task prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you provide a comprehensive overview and fully develop your points for all age groups and both sexes, ensuring the response is of sufficient length to cover the data thoroughly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often unclear. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes repetitive (e.g., 'In contrast', 'In 2026'). Referencing is occasionally confusing, making it difficult to follow the comparison between the two time periods. The abrupt ending of the text further disrupts the logical flow. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, moving logically from the overview to specific data points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use informal or inaccurate terms such as 'driving card' or 'driving permit' instead of the standard 'driving licence'. There are also issues with word forms, such as 'mens' and 'womens' instead of 'men' and 'women'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. Focus on using more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'significant increase', and 'remained stable'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'bar graphs compares', 'number of female driver rose') and pluralization (e.g., 'mens', 'womens'). Sentence structures are generally simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, and practice using more complex structures like relative clauses or passive voice to describe the data.
