Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Because the text is only 100 words long, it is severely underdeveloped. You have only managed to cover a small portion of the data provided in the graph, failing to describe the trends for older age groups or provide a comprehensive summary. To improve, you must ensure you cover all age categories and provide a more detailed analysis of the trends to meet the length requirement and demonstrate a full understanding of the data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into short paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by the incomplete nature of the content. While you use some basic cohesive devices like 'In general' and 'In regards to', the lack of a concluding summary and the abrupt ending make the overall structure feel disjointed. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and that you use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is functional but quite repetitive and limited. You rely heavily on basic phrases like 'the figure rose to' and 'it increased considerably'. There is little attempt to use more sophisticated or varied vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'peaked'. To achieve a higher band, try to incorporate a broader range of synonyms and more precise collocations to describe the data points and trends more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent errors in punctuation and sentence structure. For example, there are missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'general, the', 'men,in') and inconsistent use of articles. The sentence structures are relatively simple, and the lack of complex sentences limits your ability to demonstrate grammatical control. To improve, focus on basic punctuation rules, such as ensuring a space follows every comma, and work on combining simple sentences into more complex, error-free structures.
