Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to provide a clear overview of the main trends. It presents data in a fragmented, list-like manner rather than synthesizing the information. The description of the data is often inaccurate or confusing, such as the mention of '1-2% of women' in the 70+ category, which does not align with the provided graph. Furthermore, the response lacks a clear comparison between the two years (1975 and 2006) and fails to highlight the significant differences between age groups and sexes effectively. To improve, you should group data logically, identify key trends (e.g., the overall increase in license holders over time), and ensure the data cited is accurate.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The essay lacks logical progression. The information is presented as a series of disconnected sentences with repetitive use of the word 'whereas' to link clauses, which creates a mechanical and confusing flow. Paragraphing is present but does not serve to organize the information into meaningful categories (such as by age group or by year). There is a lack of cohesive devices to guide the reader through the data, and the referencing is often unclear, making it difficult to follow the comparison between the different demographics.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'people are having their driving licence' are used repeatedly, which is unnatural and imprecise. There is a lack of variety in reporting verbs or descriptive language suitable for describing statistical trends (e.g., 'increased', 'remained stable', 'peaked'). The misuse of 'percentile' instead of 'percentage' indicates a lack of precision. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your range of vocabulary to include terms related to data analysis and avoid repeating the same sentence structures and word choices throughout the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as '35% of people are having', and inconsistent tense usage. Punctuation is also problematic, with erratic spacing and capitalization (e.g., 'great britain'). The sentence structures are largely simple or repetitive, lacking the complexity required for higher bands. Many sentences are run-on or fragmented, making the text difficult to read. Focusing on basic sentence construction, correct verb tenses for reporting data, and proper punctuation would significantly improve the quality of your writing.
