Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the overall trend that men generally hold more licences than women and the notable gap at age 70+. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. The description of the age groups is vague, and the mention of 'similarities' between the 40-49 and 50-59 age groups is not clearly supported by the data provided in the chart. To reach a higher band, you should provide more precise data points (e.g., specific percentages for different age brackets) to support your comparisons, rather than relying on general observations. The overview is present but lacks the necessary detail to fully highlight the key trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'on the other hand' is used to introduce a point that does not necessarily contrast with the previous one. Additionally, the transition 'at the initial of graph' is awkward and lacks clarity. The progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed, and the referencing (e.g., 'after this age incline is shown') is confusing, making it difficult to track exactly which data points are being discussed. Improved use of linking words and clearer referencing would significantly enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use the word 'license' and 'graph' without much variation. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'possess driving license' instead of 'possess a driving licence' and 'incline is shown' which is not the most appropriate term for describing a downward trend in a graph. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of precision and the repetitive nature of the vocabulary prevent the response from achieving a higher score. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and nouns related to data trends would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include missing articles (e.g., 'in great Britain'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'men have more driving license' instead of 'licences'), and punctuation errors, such as the inconsistent use of spaces before commas. The sentence structure is often simplistic, and the lack of control over basic grammar, such as subject-verb agreement and pluralisation, frequently distracts the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that nouns and verbs agree correctly.
