Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, but the analysis is inconsistent. While you identify some trends, the reporting of figures is sometimes inaccurate or confusing, such as stating that the 17-20 age group was 'majorly equal' in 2006 without providing the specific data points. The overview at the end is somewhat vague and does not clearly highlight the most significant trends, such as the narrowing gender gap over time. To improve, ensure you select the most striking data points and compare them accurately rather than listing figures for every age group, which can lead to a lack of focus.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression within them is often hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition', 'Similarly', and 'In contrast', but they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately. For example, the transition 'Following this' does not logically connect the age groups. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between men and women across the different time periods. Improving the flow between sentences would significantly enhance the clarity of your report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'majorly equal', 'likewisely stable', and 'different criteria percentage'. You also struggle with word forms, such as 'licences holder's' (possessive error) and 'rosed' (incorrect verb form). While you attempt to use some descriptive language like 'increased steadily' and 'rose sharply', the overall range is limited. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that word forms (nouns vs. verbs) are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'licences holder's does not have', 'show's that women's show's'), incorrect pluralisation, and misuse of articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and apostrophes. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the high frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
