Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the data provided in the graphs, but it fails to present a clear overview or highlight the most significant trends. The description is largely a list of figures rather than a summary, and the data points are often inaccurate or confusingly presented (e.g., '805' instead of 80%). There is no clear comparison between the two years or between the sexes, which is a key requirement of the task. The information is presented in a fragmented way, making it difficult for the reader to identify the main features of the data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical and often incorrect way (e.g., 'To begin with graph', 'at the end of graph'). The progression of ideas is disjointed, and the lack of clear referencing makes it difficult to follow which data point belongs to which category. The use of linking words is repetitive and does not effectively connect the sentences to create a logical flow of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'holder', 'percentage', and 'age group'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'men holders of driving licence' instead of 'male driving licence holders'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe trends, such as 'they drop the percentage' instead of 'the percentage dropped'. Spelling errors are also frequent, which occasionally hinders the reader's ability to interpret the data accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack a clear main verb. For example, 'in the year of 1975/76 only 60% holder of car driving licence in great Britain' is grammatically incomplete. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and commas. While the student attempts some complex structures, they are almost always faulty, leading to a lack of clarity throughout the text.
