Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task by selecting some main features, such as the comparison between 1975 and 2006. However, the report is incomplete; the final sentence is cut off mid-sentence, and the data interpretation contains significant inaccuracies. For instance, the claim that 76% of men aged 70+ held licenses in 2006 is not supported by the provided data. Furthermore, the summary lacks a clear overview of the trends, and the data selection is somewhat haphazard. To improve, ensure all data points are accurately transcribed from the graph and provide a coherent summary of the overall trends before detailing specific figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by the incomplete final sentence and repetitive phrasing. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In 2006' and 'In 1975', but they are often mechanical. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when comparing groups across different years. The abrupt ending significantly disrupts the flow of the response. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, complete focus that contributes to the overall summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'percentage', 'people', and 'drivers licences'. There are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'male resident aged 70' (should be 'male residents') and 'female resident of the same have their her drivers licence'. Spelling errors like 'lice' (instead of 'licences') also occur. To improve, try to incorporate more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'figure', 'trend', and 'significant increase', and pay closer attention to pluralization and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but grammatical errors are frequent and occasionally impede communication. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'women... have their licence' vs 'female resident... has there drivers licences') and incorrect preposition usage. The sentence structure is often awkward, and the incomplete final sentence demonstrates a lack of control. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for punctuation and tense consistency. Reducing the number of errors in basic structures is essential for a higher score.
