Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the data but fails to clearly identify the main trends or make meaningful comparisons. The description of the data is often confusing and inaccurate, such as the claim that 'men in 1975 to 1976 most of them holding driving license and the younger ones has less license than the older people'. The data provided in the graph is not interpreted correctly, and the report lacks a clear overview of the significant differences between the years 1975/76 and 2006. The information is presented in a fragmented way that does not effectively highlight the key features of the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organised into short, disjointed paragraphs. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'on the other hand' and 'in a contrast', these are often used incorrectly or do not logically connect the ideas. The progression of information is unclear, and the referencing is frequently confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the different age groups and years. The overall structure lacks a logical flow, and the transition between sentences is often abrupt.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'number', 'figures', and 'people'. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'ratio of men... was more then the women' and 'shares almost the same figures'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe statistical trends, which limits the ability to convey the information accurately. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express the data with the necessary precision required for an Academic Task 1 response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'men holds', 'younger ones has'), incorrect verb tenses, and misuse of articles. Sentence structures are generally simple and repetitive, with attempts at more complex sentences often resulting in errors that obscure the intended meaning. Punctuation is also inconsistent, and the misuse of 'then' instead of 'than' is a recurring error. These errors are frequent and significantly affect the readability of the text.
