The graphs show the percentage of people with full driving licences in Great Britain by age and sex.

Overall, licence ownership is highest among middle-aged people and lowest among the youngest and oldest groups. Men generally have slightly higher rates than women in all age groups.

Overall, licence ownership is highest among middle-aged people, while the youngest and oldest age groups have the lowest percentages. In addition, men are slightly more likely to hold a driving licence than women across all age groups.

In detail, the proportion of licence holders increases from the youngest group to middle age. Young adults have relatively low ownership rates, but this rises sharply in the 30–50 age groups, where the highest percentages are recorded. After reaching this peak, the figure gradually declines in older age groups, showing that fewer elderly people continue to drive.

Regarding gender, men consistently have higher percentages of driving licence holders than women in every age group. However, the difference between males and females is not very large, especially in younger and middle-aged groups. The gap becomes a bit more noticeable among older people.

In summary, driving licence ownership follows a clear pattern of increasing in early adulthood, peaking in middle age, and then decreasing in later life, with men slightly ahead of women overall.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response effectively covers all requirements of the task. You have identified the main trends, such as the peak in middle age and the gender disparity, and supported these with relevant observations from the data. The inclusion of an overview is clear and highlights the key features successfully. The report is well-structured, and you have made appropriate comparisons between the age groups and genders. To reach a higher band, ensure that you avoid repeating information; the first two paragraphs contain redundant sentences that mirror each other, which slightly impacts the conciseness of the report.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a summary. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from general trends to specific details and gender comparisons. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In detail', 'Regarding gender', and 'In summary' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, the repetition of the introductory and overview sections at the beginning of the text creates a disjointed start. While the internal structure of the paragraphs is sound, this initial redundancy affects the overall flow and professional presentation of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information accurately, including terms like 'proportion', 'licence holders', 'consistently', and 'noticeable'. The language is appropriate for an academic report. While the vocabulary is functional and clear, it lacks the 'less common' or more sophisticated lexical items that would demonstrate a wider, more flexible range. Phrases like 'not very large' are somewhat simplistic. Incorporating more precise academic collocations would elevate the lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The writing demonstrates good control over sentence structure, with a mix of simple and complex sentences. Most sentences are error-free, and the punctuation is generally accurate. You have successfully used comparative structures, such as 'men are slightly more likely to hold a driving licence than women', which are essential for this task. There are no significant grammatical errors that impede communication. To improve, you could experiment with more varied complex sentence structures to demonstrate greater flexibility, though the current level of accuracy is quite strong.
