Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The student attempts to address the task by summarizing key trends in driving licence holders by age and sex in 1975/76 and 2006. An overview is attempted, noting that female license holders increased across all age groups, and that men consistently outnumbered women. However, the selection of data points is somewhat erratic, and several statements contain inaccuracies or vague phrasing, such as 'the license holders started to increase at the age ranged from 30-39' for men. Key comparisons between the two years and the two genders are partially developed, but the overall summary lacks the precision and full coverage expected for a higher band. Consequently, the performance aligns best with Band 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is divided into an introduction and three body paragraphs, showing a basic attempt at organization. However, the logical progression is hindered by awkward transitions and confusing sentence structures, such as 'In, contrast to men, who were lowest in their early age of 17-20 years.' Cohesive devices are used mechanically or incorrectly ('Moreover, it can be observed that the regardless of age...'), and referencing is occasionally unclear. Paragraphing is present, but the internal flow of ideas lacks cohesion. This warrants a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for a basic summary, featuring terms like 'fraction', 'growth', 'ratio', and 'percentage'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-form errors, such as 'grapgh', 'comapred', 'hlders', and 'teh'. Less common lexical items are attempted but often misused or inaccurate in collocation (e.g., 'the most license hlders belonged to...'). The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive, resulting in a score of 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures frequently contain grammatical errors or awkward phrasing (e.g., 'The growth of license holders increased across all age groups of women...'). There are also punctuation and article errors ('In, contrast to men', 'at teh age'). While some sentences are clear, frequent errors in grammar and prepositions cause occasional difficulty for the reader. This performance fits the Band 5.0 descriptors.
