Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address the task by summarizing the main features of the charts regarding driving licence holders in Great Britain. However, the response contains several inaccuracies in reading the data, such as stating that men aged 50-69 were at 90% in 2006 (which is generally accurate) but giving confusing or incorrect figures for 1975, and misinterpreting some trends for women and teenagers. While an overview is attempted, it is somewhat confusingly phrased. The comparison across age groups and years is partially developed, but the numerous data inaccuracies and vague reporting pull this down to a band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is divided into paragraphs, starting with an introduction and followed by body paragraphs and a concluding sentence. However, the logical progression is hindered by poor referencing and mechanical or missing cohesive devices (e.g., 'Conversly', 'furthurmore', abrupt transitions). The internal flow of sentences is often choppy and difficult to follow, such as 'In addition age 70 and over holded about 30% but it surged in 2006 with more than 70%, followed by 21-29 years in first period licence holders are nearly 80%...'. Paragraphing is present, but overall the organizational structure lacks clear progression, placing it firmly at band 5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting words related to data description such as 'proportion', 'surge', 'minority', and 'trend'. However, there are numerous spelling and word formation errors throughout the text, including 'ilustrate', 'Greet Britian', 'holded', 'Conversly', and 'furthurmore'. Collocations are sometimes awkward, such as 'took larger contribution'. These errors occasionally impede smooth reading, though the core meaning usually remains clear, which corresponds to the band 5 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in tense usage, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions (e.g., 'the highest percentage shared by age limit', 'in 1975 the greater ratio made up by young adults', 'women were in minority and grow up steadily'). Punctuation is also problematic in places. While some sentences are understandable, the high frequency of grammatical errors causes difficulty for the reader and prevents the writing from reaching a higher band.
