Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The student attempts to address the task by summarizing the main features of the graphs showing car driving licence holders in Great Britain by age and sex in 1975/76 and 2006. An overview is attempted in the second paragraph, noting that the 30-50 age group had higher licence-holding percentages while younger groups were lower. However, several data points are misreported or generalized inaccurately; for instance, the claim that in 1975 to 1976 '17 to 50 years old men and women have same number of driving licences' is factually incorrect based on the chart, which shows clear disparities between sexes. Furthermore, some comparisons are confused and lack precise detail. Consequently, the response achieves a Band 5.5 as it addresses the task partially with some inaccurate reporting of data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is divided into four paragraphs, following a logical introduction, overview, and body paragraph structure. However, logical progression within the body paragraphs is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing statements, such as 'Not only but, 30 to 50 age group of male and female have similar number...'. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or inappropriately, and referencing is at times unclear (e.g., 'whether, men full driving licences number were huge'). Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion suffers from frequent grammatical and structural lapses. This performance aligns best with Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a basic and limited vocabulary repertoire suitable for the task, with noticeable repetition of words like 'driving licences', 'age group', and 'number'. There are several lexical and spelling errors, such as 'individual' instead of 'individuals', 'licnces', and unnatural collocations like 'holding full driving licences ratio decreased'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are either inaccurate or awkward. While meaning is generally conveyed, the lexical limitations and frequent errors place this response at Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'group of people have', 'men have their own driving licences but, male have'), incorrect prepositions, and missing articles. Tense usage is occasionally inconsistent when referring to past years and general data. Punctuation and spacing issues also occur throughout the text. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, this response fits the Band 5.0 criteria.
