The graphs below show the percentage of people holding full driving licences in Great Britain by age and sex.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The bar graphs illustrate the percentage of individuals had full driving licences in Great Britain in 1975/76 and 2006 by age and gender.

Overall, percentage of males driving licence holder remained relatively more then females. Percentage of men driving holders grew slightly except 21-29 age group, while women driving holders increased exponentially.

To begin with, proportion of males of 17-20 age group increased to around 38% in 2006 from 35% in 1975/76. whereas percentage of women driving holder of this age group increased by more than half of 1975/76. In contrast, 77% of male driving licence holders from age between 21-29 deceased significantly to almost 70% in 2006, while percentage of women increased by 20%. Similarly, females from 30-39 age group also increased dramatically to around 80% from 50%. Meanwhile a proportion of male driving licence holder witnessed slight increament of 1%.

Furthermore, percentage of females from 40-49 age group is doubled in 2006 and percentage of males rose to almost 88% from 82%. Proportion of males whose age is between 50-59 grew to 90% from around 75% in 30 years, while proportion of women increased by almost three times from not only this age group but also from 60-69 and 70 & over age group. Males from 60-69 age group increased by more than 20% and percentage of male licence holders grew more than double for 70 and over age group.
