The graphs below show the percentage of people holding full driving licences in Great Britain by age and sex.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Full car driving licence holders: by sex and age

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The bar graph illustrates what percentage of men and women of various ages hold their full drivers licences based in Great Britain in 1975/75 and 2006.

Overall, there are seven different age groups and it is noticeable that there are more male licence holders across each age group. In all but one age group there are more men and women with their licence in the end period compared to the start, with women licence holders increasing most significantly.

Initially, in 1975/76 there was almost double men licence holders compared to women Notably, both genders percentage steadily increased with 30-39 year-olds the peak percentage for women and men in this year. From here, both experience a gradual decline with the percentage of women 70 and over reaching the lowest overall percentage on the graph round 5% whereas men remained quite similar compared to the youngest age range totalling roughly 35%.

in 2006, the gap between 17-20 year-old males and females is minimal, both just below 40%. Again both experience steady inclines however there are more men licence holders aged 21-29 in 1975/76 than 2006. Notably, both genders peak at seperate age groups, women aged 40-49 reaching 80% while 50-59 year-old men peaked at approximately 90%. In the final age group in 2006, there are over double the men licence holders compared to women.
