Student answer (Band 5.0)

The bar chart illustrates the propotion of people who are legally allowed to drive in Great Britain, the information provided is based on their age and gender.

Overall, the information compares the licenced drivers of myriad age groups from both sexes distinctively between two years. The trends depict how middle aged people have been voracious drivers in both sexes, in women the percentage is low though.

In 1975/76, we notice that people in the age group 30 ot 39 got their licenses most in both sexes, while 40 to 49 remained closer in males, and slightly lower in females. In the age group 50 to 59, and 60 to 69, there is a gradual difference, while women licensed drivers over 70 are the lowest in women. In the same year, youths are seen to drive less in both sexes from 17 to 20 ages, while 21 to 29 remains on the 3rd postion on the list.

Things changed in 2006, lincensed drivers dramatically escalated in both sexes. people from 40 to 49 years reamined to most leaglly allowed drivers. Women of age above 70 could be noticed to remain the lowest number of licensed drivers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to cover the main features of the chart, noting trends across different age groups and sexes for the two years (1975/76 and 2006). However, the overview is somewhat vague ('middle aged people have been voracious drivers'), and there are factual inaccuracies or imprecise readings of the data, such as claiming people aged 30 to 39 'got their licenses most in both sexes' when the data shows higher percentages in other age brackets like 40-49 or 50-59 in 2006. The response lacks a clear, cohesive summary of the overall patterns, leading to a Band 5 score.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is divided into paragraphs, starting with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs for specific years. However, the logical progression is hindered by awkward transitions and confusing sentence structures, such as starting a sentence with 'Things changed in 2006, lincensed drivers dramatically escalated.' Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes repetitive. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion within paragraphs lacks clarity, resulting in a Band 5 rating.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'propotion', 'voracious', and 'escalated', but there are noticeable spelling errors ('propotion', 'licenced', 'lincensed', 'reamined', 'leaglly') and awkward word choices ('voracious drivers', 'got their licenses most'). The vocabulary range is adequate for basic description, but errors in word formation and spelling are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There is a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but many attempts at complex structures contain grammatical errors or awkward phrasing, such as 'the information provided is based on their age and gender' or 'while women licensed drivers over 70 are the lowest in women.' Punctuation and comma splices are also an issue (e.g., connecting independent clauses without proper conjunctions). Errors are frequent, but communication is not totally impeded, placing the response at Band 5.
