Student answer (Band 5.0)

The given bar charts elucidates information about the percentage of people holding full driving licences in great britain by age and sex. The charts compares different categories and presents the date in percentages for proper illustration.

Overall, it is evident that there are noticeable differences among the categories shown in the charts. Furthermore, for men 2006, appeared to be the highest, while 1975/76 was the lowest. In addition, all categories showed mixed results with some fluctuations with stability, increment as well as dcrement.

Talking about men, its values were quite interesting like for 17-20 age, nearly 29% for 2006 year, nearly 28% for 1975/76 year, for 21-29 age, approximately 65% for 2006 year, roughly 78% for 1975/76 year, for 30-39 age, approximately 84% for 2006 year, roughly 83% for 1975/76 year, and 40-49 age, nearly 82% for 1975/76 year, neary 85% for 2006 year, 50-49 age, just below 80% for 1975/76 year, nearly 85% for 2006 year, 60-69 age, approximately 85% for 2006 year, just below 60% for 1975/76 year, and 70 and over age, roughly 25% for 1975/76 year, and just below 80% for 2006 year.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarise the data for both men and women across different age groups, but the execution is incomplete and cut off mid-sentence at the end of the text. Furthermore, the overview provided in the second paragraph is overly vague and inaccurate in places ('for men 2006, appeared to be the highest, while 1975/76 was the lowest'). While the student tries to list numerous figures for male licence holders, many of these data points contain inaccuracies when compared against the actual chart (for example, stating 17-20 year old men in 2006 was nearly 29% when the chart shows 37%). Due to the incomplete ending, inaccurate data reporting, and a lack of clear comparison of the main overall trends, this response meets the criteria for Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is divided into paragraphs, which is a positive feature, attempting an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for men and women. However, the logical progression breaks down due to the mechanical and listing-heavy nature of the body paragraphs. Sentences such as 'Talking about men, its values were quite interesting like for...' rely on heavy, conversational run-on structures rather than formal cohesive devices. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes faulty ('for women, for 2006, it had shares...'). The response stops abruptly before completing the final section on women, leaving the overall structure unfinished. This corresponds to a Band 5.0 for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range to communicate basic information about percentages and categories (e.g., 'percentage', 'fluctuations', 'stability', 'increment'). However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as using 'increment as well as dcrement' (spelling error) and 'Pouring some light on women', which is overly informal and incorrect for an Academic Task 1 response. There are also several spelling mistakes like 'elucidates' used correctly in context, but 'great britain' uncapitalised, and 'dcrement'. The vocabulary is repetitive in the data description sections ('approximately', 'roughly', 'nearly'). This performance aligns with a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but the control of grammar and punctuation is weak, particularly in the long, convoluted data-listing sentences. For example, the sentence describing male statistics is a single massive run-on clause joined by commas ('Talking about men, its values were quite interesting like for 17-20 age, nearly 29%... and 70 and over age...'). There are frequent errors in prepositions and articles (e.g., 'date in percentages', 'for 2006 year', 'for 17-20'). The response also ends prematurely with an incomplete sentence ('For 1975/76, 20% for 17-20, above 40% for 21-29, over 40% for 30-39,'), reflecting poor syntactic control under pressure. This warrants a Band 5.0.
