Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the charts regarding licence holders by age and sex, but it only partially addresses the requirements of the task. While some data points are mentioned, several figures are inaccurately reported, such as the percentages for teenage women and those aged 21 to 29. Furthermore, the overview is limited and lacks a clear, comprehensive summary of the overall trends, such as the general increase in licence holding among women and the high, stable rates among middle-aged men. Key comparisons between men and women are also under-developed or missed, resulting in a somewhat fragmented account of the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response shows some organisation with paragraph breaks used to separate different age groups and genders, but there is no clear overall progression across the essay. The sequencing of information feels somewhat disjointed, jumping between years and demographics without a smooth narrative flow. Cohesive devices are used, but they are frequently repetitive or mechanically applied, such as the repeated use of 'in 2006' and 'for the same age'. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, making it harder for the reader to follow the comparisons smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, with simple terms like 'percentage', 'rise', and 'decrease'. There are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'accounting license' instead of 'holding a licence' or 'having a licence', and 'women population' instead of 'the female population'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but these awkward collocations and limited lexical variety cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted range of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple and repetitive clauses. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to awkward phrasing and missing words. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with missing articles ('had license'), incorrect prepositions ('aging from 30-49'), and punctuation errors such as spaces before commas and missing spaces after full stops. These recurring errors can cause occasional difficulty for the reader in tracking the meaning.
