Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response attempts to summarize the charts showing driving licence holders by sex and age, but it only partially addresses the task. While an overall trend is stated, it contains inaccuracies, such as claiming that the number of men was greater than women in both years without properly qualifying how the gap narrowed significantly for younger demographics by 2006. Many specific details are imprecise or inaccurate when compared to the source data, for example, stating that women at 50-59 were '25 percent only' or that women at 17-20 and 70 had the 'same 30 percent'. Furthermore, the response lacks a fully developed overview of the main trends across the decades and age groups, leading to a restricted and fragmented summary.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organization with an introductory sentence and separate paragraphs for men and women, but there is no clear overall progression or logical structuring between the sections. Cohesive devices are used very mechanically or repetitively, such as the constant reliance on 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'At last'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the body paragraphs mix different age groups and time periods without clear transitions, making it difficult for the reader to follow a logical development of ideas throughout the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with heavy reliance on simple vocabulary and repetitive phrases like 'driving licence' and 'at the age of'. There are noticeable lexical errors and imprecise word choices throughout the text, such as using 'man' instead of 'men' (which is a word form/spelling issue) and writing 'increament' instead of 'increment'. These vocabulary limitations and errors sometimes cause difficulty for the reader in grasping the precise data being reported.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response shows a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and repetitive clauses. Attempts at more complex comparisons or descriptions are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement mistakes (e.g., 'the number of man were greater') and missing plural markers or articles. These frequent errors in grammar and punctuation can cause strain and difficulty for the reader when attempting to verify the statistics.
