Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response responds to the task only minimally and fails to reach the minimum word length requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at 118 words. While the student attempts to summarise the data by mentioning categories like men, women, and various age groups, the information is presented in a fragmented and underdeveloped manner. Key features and comparisons are poorly selected, and important data points are generalised without sufficient clarity or support. The overview is weak, and the response lacks a fully developed summary of the main trends shown in the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently, making it very difficult for the reader to follow a logical progression. The response lacks clear paragraphing, and sentences are clumped together without adequate transitions. Although basic connectors like 'furthermore' and 'overall' are attempted, cohesive devices are generally misused or absent. Referencing is unclear, and the overall structural organisation fails to guide the reader smoothly through the comparison of the data points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, showing noticeable limitations that sometimes strain the reader's comprehension. Words are frequently misused or confused, such as writing 'driver licence' instead of 'driving licence' and 'on the basic of' instead of 'on the basis of'. There are also frequent spelling and word-form errors, like 'Britian' and 'ther'. The range is minimally adequate to convey a rudimentary topic, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex structures that contain frequent errors. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement, articles, missing prepositions, and non-standard sentence construction, such as 'their is major increase' and 'the women full car license holders have sufficient percentage'. Punctuation is also neglected, with run-on phrasing and incomplete sentences like 'Regarding the largest percentage of' causing frequent difficulties and distorting meaning for the reader.
