Full car driving licence holders: by sex and age
Student answer (Band 4.5)
The graphs below show the percentage of people holding full driving licences in Great Britain by age and sex.
As we go through the graps we can see age and gender wise difference by sex and age. If we look deep into the fact it is shown that 90% of licence are from in the age range of 50 to 59 men in 2006 but in1975 or 1976 it was a different senario. Particularly 80% of women that has got driving licence were from the age group of 40 to 49 and the lowest participant was in 17 to 20 years old .If we look into the men gender senario the lowest participant was also from the same age group.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify relevant comparisons, including the high proportion of male licence holders aged 50–59 in 2006 and the low figures among the youngest group. However, the response only partially addresses the task: it gives no clear overview of the main changes across the two years and omits most age groups and comparisons. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: women’s 2006 peak was around 79% for ages 40–49, but the response says “80% of women” without making the year explicit; the lowest female figure was among those aged 70 and over in 1975/76, not the 17–20 group. The response is also 101 words, below the required 150. Add a concise overview and report the main patterns accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic sequence: an opening sentence is followed by comments about women and then men, and phrases such as “If we look” attempt to guide the reader. However, the response is a single paragraph and does not progress through a clear overview and supporting details. Repeated framing (“If we look deep into the fact” and “If we look into…”) is mechanical, while “it” in “it is shown” has no clear reference. The ideas also jump between years and age groups without explaining the comparisons. Organise the response into an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and one or two paragraphs comparing the data by age and sex; use direct links such as “By contrast” where appropriate.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “percentage,” “licence,” “age range,” and “age group,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are awkward or imprecise, such as “age and gender wise difference,” “look deep into the fact,” and “lowest participant.” “Scenario” is also not a natural way to describe the chart’s figures, and “licence are from” makes the meaning difficult to follow. There are spelling errors in “graps” and “senario.” Use precise chart language such as “proportion,” “licence holders,” “highest/lowest percentage,” and “increased,” and check spelling and collocations before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, for example, “If we look deep into the fact it is shown that…” and “Particularly 80% of women…”. However, the structures are often faulty or incomplete, and punctuation makes the relationships between clauses unclear. In “90% of licence are from in the age range,” the plural subject and verb do not agree, and the sentence contains an unnecessary preposition. “80% of women that has got driving licence” also has agreement and article problems. The opening phrase “As we go through…” is followed by an unclear construction. Aim for shorter, controlled comparisons first, checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries; then add complex clauses once the basic grammar is secure.
