Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify relevant comparisons between the two years and sexes, including the high licence-holding rates among men aged 50–69 in 2006 and the rise among women aged 30–49. However, the response only partly summarises the chart: it gives no clear, accurate overview of the main contrast that men had higher rates overall, while women’s rates rose substantially across most age groups. Some trends are also imprecise or incorrect. For example, men’s 2006 figures do not rise steadily from age 17 to 69: they peak around ages 50–59 and then decline, and the 1975/76 pattern does not simply increase to age 49. Include a concise overview and select a few accurate comparisons across age groups and years.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable sequence: an introduction, a general comparison, and then descriptions of trends for men and women. This gives the reader some overall organisation, and phrases such as “On the other hand” help signal contrast. However, progression is limited because the body mainly describes rises and falls without grouping the most useful comparisons, and several references are unclear, such as “it” and “then in 1975/76.” The opening also calls the visuals “two line Graphs,” which does not orient the reader accurately. Organise the report into a clear overview followed by focused comparisons, and use explicit references to the age group, sex, and year rather than relying on vague pronouns.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “holding driving licences,” “rise,” and “fall,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “high propotion,” “higher driving licences ratio,” and “a rise up shown in increasing number of driving licences holding men.” There are also spelling and form errors, such as “british,” “untill,” and “propotion.” Aim for precise chart language and natural collocations, for example “the proportion of licence holders increased” or “the rate was higher.” Check spelling and avoid repeating “rise” and “fall” when more exact descriptions are available.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons and clauses beginning “On the other hand” and “In case of women.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and frequent errors in agreement, articles, prepositions, and sentence construction can make the relationships between figures unclear. For instance, “Women whom age are between 30 to 49” has an incorrect relative construction, while “there is a increase in it from 17 till 69” has article and phrasing problems. Tense and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “The overall line graph represents that in 2006,men.” Practise accurate comparative patterns such as “the proportion among women aged 30–49 was higher in 2006 than in 1975/76,” and proofread sentence boundaries and spacing.
