Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies the chart’s subject and gives a broad overview that licence holding increased over time and was higher among men. However, the overview is too general: the rise was not uniform, since men aged 17–20 changed little and the proportion among men aged 21–29 fell. The body reports only a few figures for men in 1975/76, and the claim that the 17–20 group was at 40% is inaccurate (about 36%). It omits the 2006 figures and almost all information about women, so the main comparisons are not adequately summarised. The response is also 28 words below the required minimum. Include key contrasts for both sexes and both years, with accurate figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph beginning with a specific year. The overview also uses “Additionally” to add a related comparison. However, the response ends before developing a complete account, and the final paragraph strings together several points without a clear hierarchy: “middle age categories,” the 40–59 group, ages 60–69, and ages 17–20. Repeated use of “And” makes the progression feel list-like, while “that” in “that has full driving license” has an unclear reference. Organise the body into clear comparisons—such as men versus women or 1975/76 versus 2006—and use linking phrases to show how each figure supports the overview.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses relevant chart vocabulary, including “horizontal bar chart,” “age categories,” “percentage,” and “trend,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “ratio” for a percentage, “significantly moving upward trend,” and “second most higher ratio.” There are also spelling and form errors in “ca,” “licence,” and “femles,” which reduce precision. Use standard chart language consistently: “proportion” or “percentage,” “increased,” and “the second-highest figure.” Check spelling and distinguish “licence holders” from “drivers” where the chart specifically measures people holding licences.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts a few longer structures, including “Overall, driving licence holders experienced…” and a comparison introduced by “Additionally,” but most sentences rely on simple patterns, and several are incomplete or difficult to follow. For example, “In 1975/76,men holding licenced were higher…” lacks a clear grammatical construction, while “And the age of 60 to 69 having second most higher ratio” is a fragment. There are also errors in articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, as in “two distinct period” and the run-on sequence of points in the final paragraph. Practise complete subject–verb sentences and use accurate comparative forms, for example, “The proportion was highest among men aged 40–49.”
