Full car driving licence holders: by sex and age
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The bar ghraph illustrates the proportion of citizens holding with full car driving licences in Great Britian by the age group and sex between 1975/76 and 2006.
Overall, men dominated over women in having full car driving liscence holders throughout the period given. The highest for the man was in 2006 by the age group of 50-59, likewise, the lowest was seen by the age group of 17-20. however, women of the age group 40-49 who peaked in 2006 and the lowest was seen by the age group that is 17-20 as well as 70 and over. As the age group increases thr holding of liscences also increases expect the age group of 70 and over.
Firstly, the men holded the most of full car driving liscence and showed marginally stable around 80-90% for the age group of 30-69 in 2006 likewise, for 1975/76 21-59 stayed between 75-85%. The highest was seen for male in 2006 was around 90% with the age group of 50-59 whereas in1975/76 the age group of 30-39 peaked over the period given. The substantial change is inthe age group of 70 and over whose numbers are increased by almost more than douubled up.
on the other hand, women showed the stable holding of full car liscences for the age group of 30-59 whereas, the major change amongst all is in the age group of 70 and over. as the new generation came it almost cross four time what is in 1975/76.the other major difference is as in 1975/76 the womens were little low holded insurences while in 2006 the numbers increased and rose almost double of that for each and every group.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You provide an overview and make relevant comparisons between men and women across the two years. You correctly identify men’s higher licence-holding rates overall, the strong rise among people aged 70 and over, and the high figures for men aged 50–59 in 2006. However, some key details are inaccurate or unclear: the lowest male figure in 2006 was for ages 17–20, but in 1975/76 it was also this group, while the women’s lowest figures were for those aged 70 and over, not equally for 17–20. The claim that women’s rates “rose almost double” in every group is an overgeneralisation; increases varied considerably. Develop the overview with clearer, accurate comparisons across both sexes and years.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for men and women. This gives the reader a coherent overall arrangement, and phrases such as “Firstly” and “on the other hand” signal the shift between groups. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several comparisons are compressed into long, loosely connected sentences. For example, the overview moves from men’s peaks to women’s lows and then to a general age trend without clearly separating these points. Some linking words are also used mechanically or inaccurately, and punctuation and capitalisation make transitions less clear. Grouping the main trends more deliberately and using simpler links between comparisons would improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “age group,” “peaked,” “stable,” and “substantial change,” so the topic is generally clear. However, the range and control are limited by repeated wording such as “age group” and “numbers,” as well as inaccurate collocations and word forms. Phrases such as “men dominated over women,” “holded the most,” and “little low holded insurences” are difficult or unnatural, and several spellings are incorrect, including “ghraph,” “Britian,” and “liscence.” These errors sometimes make the intended comparison harder to understand. Use precise terms such as “licence-holding rate” and “percentage,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including comparisons introduced by “whereas” and clauses describing age-group trends. However, complex sentences are often not controlled successfully, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries sometimes obscure meaning. For example, “the men holded” uses an incorrect past form, while “women of the age group 40-49 who peaked” is an incomplete clause. In “As the age group increases thr holding of liscences also increases,” the sentence structure and punctuation are faulty. Capitalisation after full stops is also inconsistent. Aim for shorter, complete sentences first, then add subordinate clauses only when their grammatical relationship is clear.
