Full car driving licence holders: by sex and age
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The chart illustrate the total percentage of people in UK holding complete driving licence, while the chart demonstrate different categories by age and sex in year 1975/1976 and 2006.
Overall, the ratio of men holding driving licence in higher in percentage as compare to women. The men from age group of 50-59 hold maximum number of license while women from age of 40-49 hold maximum number of license.
Regarding the license holder by men in year 1975/1976 the men from age group of 30-39 hold almost 82%of license most among the user while the graph changes in year 2006 where men between the age of 30-69 hold most amount of license about 82%and above. While, men between the age of 17-20 share least amount of license in both year 1975/1976 and 2006 around 38 & 39%.
Furthermore,if we turn towrd the chart of women overall the licence holder in year of 1975/1976 is low as compare to that of 2006.In the year 1975/1976 women above the age of 70 hold only 5% of license while this number gradually increase if you come down by age and maximize in the age group of 30-39 with total percentage of abuut45% and then gradually decrease in term of percentage and show only 20% hold licence between the age group of 17-20.Similarly,if we look into the year 2006 the ratio propotion of age group of 17-20 and above 70 is same as 30% while the percentage gradually increases as age increase and maximize at the age of 40-49 with 80%of women holding license and above this age chart again start decreases and reach 30% in age group of 70 and above.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the broad pattern that men had higher licence-holding rates than women, and you compare both years, which addresses the main task. You also select relevant age groups, such as women aged 30–39 in 1975/76 and 40–49 in 2006. However, some key details are inaccurate or unclear: men’s highest figure in 1975/76 was for ages 40–49 (about 81%), not 30–39, and in 2006 the peak was among 50–59-year-olds (about 92%), rather than a broad 30–69 group. The claim that men aged 17–20 were the lowest group in both years overlooks men aged 70 and over in 1975/76. A more precise overview and carefully checked comparisons would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on men and one on women. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the information, and transitions such as “Furthermore” and “Similarly” help connect sections. The organisation is not fully effective, however, because some sentences combine several trends and comparisons, making the progression difficult to follow. For example, the long sentence beginning “In the year 1975/1976 women above the age of 70…” moves through several age groups without clearly separating the comparisons. Some linking phrases, including “while” and “and then,” are repeated mechanically. Grouping the data by year or by the most notable age patterns, and using shorter sentences with clearer references, would make the progression more controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “percentage,” “age group,” “licence holder,” and “gradually increase,” so the reader can understand the subject and many comparisons. There is also some attempt to vary wording, for instance “ratio” and “share.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing chart data: “maximum number of license,” “share least amount,” and “the ratio proportion” do not express the intended meaning precisely. Spelling errors such as “towrd,” “abuut,” and “propotion” also reduce accuracy. Use standard chart language consistently, such as “the highest proportion,” “the lowest figure,” and “the percentage rose,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses linked with “while,” “if,” and “as,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “The chart illustrate” needs subject–verb agreement, while “the ratio of men … in higher” has an incorrect verb form. In “the percentage gradually increases as age increase,” the verb does not agree with its subject, and several sentences run together without appropriate punctuation. These issues sometimes make comparisons harder to interpret. Practise accurate present-tense reporting structures and check each sentence for a clear subject and verb; use full stops to separate distinct trends.
