Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main broad patterns: men had higher licence-holding rates than women, and women’s figures rose substantially by 2006. You also compare age groups and include relevant figures, such as women aged 30–39 at about 49% in 1975/76 and around 78% in 2006. However, some claims are too broad or inaccurate. The statement that middle-aged people had the highest proportions overlooks the high rates among men aged 21–29 in 1975/76 and men aged 60–69 in 2006. The claim that 21–59-year-old men were all around 80% also obscures variation, while the description of women’s rates as declining with age is not precise for every group. Select the clearest peaks, lows, and changes, and report them more accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for men and women. This makes the broad organisation easy to follow, and sequencing words such as “Firstly” and “Secondly” help signal the shift between groups. However, some links are mechanical or confusing. “By contrast” does not clearly connect the preceding overview points, and “However” is used repeatedly without always marking a genuine contrast. The men’s paragraph moves between several age groups and years without a consistent comparison pattern, while the women’s paragraph combines a general trend with figures that do not fully support it. Organise each body paragraph around a clear year-to-year comparison, and use linking phrases to show the relationship between specific data points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “age group,” “increased,” and “decline,” so the reader can generally understand the subject. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, which makes several descriptions unclear. Phrases such as “occupied the vast amount of ratio,” “proportion artes,” and “the younger one stands” are not natural ways to describe chart data. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “proprotion,” “contarst,” “higest,” and “adolescenses.” Aim for a smaller set of precise chart expressions—such as “accounted for,” “stood at,” and “rose to”—and check spelling carefully. This would make the comparisons more fluent and exact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons introduced by “while” and “whereas.” However, errors in agreement, sentence boundaries, and verb forms occur often enough to make some sentences awkward or unclear. For example, “men contributes” should use a plural verb, and “17-20 age group showed a slight increase and stands” shifts tense within the same sentence. Several fragments begin with “While,” and “and 30-39 group remained constant” is incorrectly attached after a full stop. Capitalisation after full stops is also inconsistent. Use past tense consistently for the historical data, check subject–verb agreement, and make sure each sentence has a complete main clause. These changes would improve accuracy while preserving your attempts at varied structures.
