Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify some relevant features, including the very low share of women aged 70 and over in 1975/76 and the rise for this group by 2006. You also note that women aged 40–49 and 30–39 had similar figures in 2006. However, the overview is unclear and includes an inaccurate comparison: male licence-holding among those aged 30–39 was not the same in both years (about 77% versus 87%). The claim that the highest female proportion occurred in 2006 is too broad; the peak was around 79% among women aged 40–49. Several key patterns are omitted, especially the generally higher male figures and the substantial increases among women. Select and compare these main trends more clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “To begin with” and “Furthermore” help signal stages. However, the progression is limited: the final paragraph moves between female and male data without a clear comparison, and the overview’s claim about men aged 30–39 is not developed or corrected later. Some sentence openings are awkwardly punctuated, and “While” begins a fragment rather than being joined to the preceding idea. Organise the details by a clear comparison—for example, first summarise the overall sex difference, then compare changes across age groups—and use linking words to show relationships rather than simply mark each new point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary such as “proportion,” “percentage,” “age” and “license holders,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, several word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, including “proportion of Britain citizens,” “highest proportion of license hold” and “percentage of license holding.” Repetition of “holding a license” also limits the range. Use standard chart language such as “the proportion of British people who held a full driving licence” and “licence ownership.” Be consistent with British spelling, as the task concerns Great Britain and uses “licence.” More precise vocabulary for describing change and comparison would help you report the data clearly without relying on repeated, awkward phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “while” and an overview beginning “Overall.” However, errors in agreement, articles and sentence construction are frequent enough to make some statements difficult to follow. For example, “The given two graph illustrates” has a number and agreement problem, while “who holds” does not match the past-time data. In “the highest proportion of license hold in females recorded,” the sentence lacks a clear grammatical structure. Capitalisation after commas is also inconsistent, and “While” is used as a sentence fragment in the final paragraph. Practise forming complete comparison sentences and checking subject–verb agreement, for example: “The proportion of women aged 70 and over rose from about 3% to 29%.”
