Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and attempt an overview by comparing men’s and women’s licence-holding rates and noting low figures among the youngest group. However, the response covers only a small part of the information: it does not compare the two years systematically or describe the broad rise in women’s rates and older men’s rates by 2006. Some claims are inaccurate: men’s highest figures are about 92% for ages 50–59 and 91% for 60–69 in 2006, not “almost 99%”; women’s lowest rate is among those aged 70 and over in 1975/76, not 17–20. The response is also 48 words below the required minimum. Include key changes and accurate comparisons across both years to develop the summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic overall shape: an opening sentence is followed by a paragraph beginning “Overall,” which signals an attempt to summarise the main features. The comparison of men and women gives the reader some direction. However, the ideas are compressed into one long paragraph, and there is little progression from an overview to supporting details. The repeated construction “were at the age” makes the comparisons difficult to follow, while “on the other hand” does not clearly introduce a contrasting trend. Organise the report into a brief introduction, a clear overview, and separate detail sentences comparing the two years and age groups. Use linking phrases only where they accurately show the relationship between points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “age,” “sex,” and “lowest,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or repetitive, such as “full car licence holder” and “were the highest full car licence holder.” Spelling errors in “demostarte” and “og” also reduce clarity. Choose precise chart language and vary expressions for describing proportions and comparisons. For example, refer to “the proportion of licence holders” and say that a figure “was highest” or “stood at” a particular percentage. Check spelling carefully, especially in the opening sentence, and avoid repeating the same phrase when comparing groups.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas using clauses and contrast markers, as in “Overall…” and “on the other hand…,” but most of the response relies on simple or incomplete sentence patterns. Agreement and sentence construction are often faulty: “the percentage of men … were the highest” mismatches a singular subject and verb, and “In the women the lowest were at the age…” is not a complete, well-formed comparison. The long overview sentence also needs clearer punctuation and clause boundaries. Practise accurate patterns such as “The proportion of men aged 50–59 was highest in 2006” and “Among women, the lowest figure was for those aged 70 and over.” Building a few controlled comparative sentences will improve both range and accuracy.
