Full car driving licence holders: by sex and age
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The illustration gives information about the difference between percentage of age and sex for holding driving licence. Overall, around 17 to 40 age, 80 percent people were holding driving licence but with the passage of age, people were decrease for holding driving licence.
It is quite evident from the bar chart that in great Britain, in 1975, around 17 to 20 age, 39 percent men was holding driving licence and 20 percent women was holding. 80 percent men was holding the driving licence in 30 to 39 age and on the other hand 50 percent women was holding driving licence. In contrast, around 50 to 59 age, 60 percent people were holding driving licence. 70 and over age people were holding 3 percent driving licence.
Furthermore, in 2006, around 17 to 20 age, 20 percent women was holding driving licence and 38 percent men was holding driving licence. 82 percent men was holding driving licence in 30 to 39 age and 40 percent women was holding. In contrast, with the passage of time people were decrease for holding driving licence.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the chart’s subject and make an attempt to compare the two years, including figures for young adults and some older groups. However, the overview is inaccurate: licence holding does not generally decline with age across the chart, and the highest rates are mostly among middle-aged groups. Several details are also misreported or unclear. For example, in 1975/76, women aged 30–39 were about 49%, not 50% only approximately, while in 2006 they were about 78%, not 40%. The statement that people aged 50–59 had 60% in 1975/76 is also misleading because the figures differ substantially by sex. Select the main patterns, compare men and women, and report the age-group trends accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an opening and overview are followed by separate descriptions of 1975/76 and 2006. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression is limited because the paragraphs list a few figures without a consistent comparison, and the repeated phrases “in contrast” and “with the passage of time” do not always express the relationships accurately. The final sentence repeats the idea of a decline rather than summarising the chart’s main pattern. Improve cohesion by grouping comparable age bands or highlighting the changes between years, and use linking expressions only when the data genuinely contrast.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a small set of relevant terms, including “percentage,” “bar chart,” “age,” and “holding driving licence,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, vocabulary is repetitive and several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “percentage of age and sex,” “people were holding driving licence,” and “people were decrease for holding driving licence.” These choices sometimes make the intended comparison difficult to follow. Use more precise chart language and vary the wording for licence ownership and proportions. For example, describe the share of people who “held a full driving licence” and say that the proportion “increased” or “fell,” rather than describing people as decreasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with contrast markers, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently. Subject–verb agreement is often incorrect: “39 percent men was” and “people were decrease” need different verb forms. Articles and plural forms are also missing in phrases such as “holding driving licence,” while the opening construction “difference between percentage of age and sex” is difficult to parse. These errors can make comparisons unclear, even though the reader can identify some of the figures. Practise accurate past-tense reporting, agreement with plural subjects, and sentence patterns such as “The proportion of men aged 30–39 was…” before adding more complex clauses.
