Full car driving licence holders: by sex and age
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The graph shows the comparison of people holding driving licenses at different age and of different sex. It shows that the overall ratio of man in order of sex having driving licence is more than women. Mostly the people having age between 30-60 holds driving licence more than the others. The changes from 1975/76 to 2006 shows a major difference in all aspects of age in women holding driving licence. However if we compare the age of 17-20 it shows the significant similar ratio in both men and women in year 2026. The women having age between 21-29 holds more driving licence than man in 2006 and similarly polar opposite is shown in year 1975/76. In adding to this the man holding driving licence at the age of 30 to furthermore have significantly high ratio of holding the licence of driving as compared to women. The graph shows the major difference between both men and women at the age of 70 and above, the percentage of men having driving licence is much more than that of the women. Overall the graphs shows the difference that is observed between two years 1975/76 and 2006 in which the percentage of both sex having driving licence at any respective age is much more in the latter year than the previous one. However it also shows the similarity in percentage of people of both sex between age 30-69 in order of holding a driving licence, there might be a slight difference in percentage but not more than what we have observed in age of 70 and above.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several relevant patterns, including the rise in women’s licence-holding between the two years and the particularly large gap among people aged 70 and over. You also note that men generally had higher figures and that the 21–29 comparison reverses by 2006. However, some claims are inaccurate or too broad: women aged 21–29 did not exceed men in 2006 (63% versus 70%), and the figures for both sexes did not rise in every age group; men aged 21–29 fell from 78% to 70%. The overview also says the 30–69 groups are similar, although men’s and women’s percentages differ substantially in several groups. Select the main trends more precisely and support them with accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response includes an opening description and an overall summary, and it uses linking expressions such as “However,” “Overall,” and “In adding to this.” These help signal relationships between points. Nevertheless, the ideas are presented in one long paragraph, with no clear separation between the overview and supporting details. The discussion moves between age groups, sexes, and years without a consistent organising principle, and some links are confusing—for example, “similarly polar opposite” does not clearly explain the comparison. Repeated references to “the graph shows” also make progression feel mechanical. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and key comparisons, and group details by trend or age range.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “percentage,” “significant,” “comparison,” and “overall,” so the reader can generally understand the subject. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “major difference.” However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise: “ratio of man,” “holds driving licence,” and “ratio of holding the licence of driving” make the description less clear. “Polar opposite” is not suitable for describing a numerical reversal, and “in order of sex” is difficult to interpret. Aim for accurate chart language and natural collocations, such as “proportion of men who held a licence” and “the figures were reversed.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “However” and “in which,” and the main message is usually understandable. However, errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur repeatedly. For example, “people having age between 30-60 holds” should use a plural verb, while “the overall ratio of man” has problems with number and article use. The sentence beginning “However if we compare…” is also awkwardly constructed, and “the percentage of both sex … is” does not maintain agreement. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas harder to follow. Practise accurate plural forms and subject–verb agreement, and divide long sentences into clearer units.
