Full car driving licence holders: by sex and age
Student answer (Band 5.5)
the graphs illustrates percentage of full car driving license holder by sex and age from age 17 to 70 and over in great britian during 1975/76 and 2006 time period.
overall mens percentages of driving license holder is greater than women and it is more consistent. most number of drivers holding driving license peaked during 2006 at the age of 50-59 and in women it recorded least number of driving license holders at the age of 70 and over during 1975-76 period.
if we look at mens graph during 1975 and 2006 thier is not really significant difference in timeline it has really tiny difference of holders until age of 60-69 which recorded more than 30 percent difference if we compare the timeline whihc increased massively in 70 and over age also so we can say that their was minimal change.
however if we see womens graph during period of 1975 womens holding drivers license was really less especially womens age 70 and over but surprisngly womens holding drivers license increased by vast amount of percentage during 2006 period and it had more number of drivers in every age group recording highest number of drivers at the age of 40-49

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the broad pattern that men had higher licence-holding percentages overall and that women’s figures rose substantially by 2006. You also note the very low figure for women aged 70 and over in 1975/76. However, some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear: men’s figures did not change only minimally, since the 70-and-over group rose from about 35% to 77% and the 60–69 group from 60% to 91%. The stated peak for women at ages 40–49 is also incorrect: their highest 2006 figure was around 79% at 40–49, narrowly above 30–39, but the response should distinguish this from the overall pattern. A clearer overview and more accurate key comparisons would make the report more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs discussing men and women. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through the information. Linking phrases such as “overall,” “if we look at,” and “however” help signal shifts between points, although some are repetitive or conversational. Within the paragraphs, comparisons are not always sequenced clearly; for example, the discussion of men moves from small differences to the 60–69 group and then to those aged 70 and over, before concluding that change was minimal. Organise each paragraph by the main trend, then support it with the most relevant age-group figures. Clearer referencing and less repetitive transitions would improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “percentage,” “age group,” “increased,” and “recording highest,” so the main subject is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more descriptive language, such as “increased massively” and “vast amount,” but these are imprecise or too informal for an academic chart report. Repetition of “driving license holders” makes the account less flexible, and several spelling errors—such as “britian,” “thier,” and “surprisngly”—reduce accuracy. Choose concise, conventional terms for describing data and vary them carefully, for example “licence-holding rates” and “rose substantially.” More precise collocations and accurate spelling would strengthen the vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, as in “if we see womens graph during period of 1975…,” showing some range. However, control is uneven, and errors in agreement, articles, possessives, and sentence construction recur. For example, “the graphs illustrates” should use a plural verb, while “mens percentages … is” has a subject–verb agreement problem. Phrases such as “during 2006 period” also need more accurate article and preposition choices. Several long sentences run together without clear punctuation, making relationships between ideas harder to follow. Practise building accurate comparisons with a clear subject and verb, and use full stops to separate distinct points.
