Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the broad topic and make an attempt at an overview, noting that older people had lower licence-holding rates and comparing the sexes in 2006. However, the overview is incomplete and includes inaccurate claims: men aged 50–59 were not the highest group in 2006 (the 50–59 and 60–69 groups were both around 90%, with 50–59 slightly higher), while women’s peak was among those aged 40–49 and 30–39, at roughly similar levels. The body gives only a few figures and omits most age groups and the substantial rise among women. The final paragraph is also unfinished as a comparison. The response is 142 words, below the required 150, and needs fuller, more accurate coverage of the main patterns.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to details about men and women. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “To begin with,” and “Furthermore” help signal these stages. However, progression is limited because the body does not develop a clear comparison across the age groups or both years, and the final paragraph ends without completing the point. Some connections are awkward or unclear, particularly “As compare to females” and “At the age 17 to 20 holding same percent,” which make the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Organise the details into a clearer sequence—for example, compare the overall changes by sex, then highlight age-group exceptions—and ensure each paragraph develops a complete point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “holding,” and “increased,” so the reader can generally understand what is being described. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or repetitive, such as “full driving license,” “male catagory,” and “least amount of people.” These choices reduce precision and sometimes sound unnatural. There are also spelling errors in “catagory” and inconsistent use of “license/licence.” Use standard chart language such as “licence holders,” “the proportion of men,” and “the lowest figure.” A wider set of accurate terms for describing comparisons and trends would help you report the data more precisely without repeating the same phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a range of sentence forms, including an overview beginning “Overall” and a comparison introduced by “As compare to females.” However, errors are frequent, and some sentences are incomplete or difficult to interpret. For example, “At the age 17 to 20 holding same percent of 38% in both years” lacks a clear subject and finite verb, while “the percentage were lower” has subject–verb disagreement. The sentence beginning “As compare to females” is also not grammatically complete, and punctuation is inconsistent, with missing spaces after full stops and unnecessary capitalisation. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles, and punctuation. More accurate control of these basic patterns would make your comparisons easier to follow.
