Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the chart’s broad subject and give an overview: men have higher licence rates overall, and the 40–69 age groups are generally prominent. However, the response addresses the task only minimally: it gives no figures, makes no comparisons between 1975/76 and 2006, and omits key patterns such as the substantial rise among women and the decline for men aged 21–29. The claim that 17–20-year-olds have the lowest percentage is not accurate across both years and sexes; for example, women aged 70 and over were at about 3% in 1975/76. The response is also 60 words, 90 short of the 150-word minimum. Add a fuller overview and select several accurate comparisons with data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, sensible structure: an introductory sentence is followed by an overview beginning with “Overall,” and the ideas are broadly related to the chart. This gives the reader a clear starting point. However, the response ends after the overview, so there is no progression into supporting details or comparisons. The linking phrase “whereas” does signal contrast, but the relationship it introduces is not sufficiently precise. To improve, organise the report into an introduction, an overview, and one or two detail paragraphs, grouping figures by sex, age, or change over time. Use clear links such as “By contrast” or “In 2006” to guide the reader through those comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “driving licences,” “age group,” and “percentage,” so the topic is understandable. There is some repetition of “driving licence” and “percentage,” and the wording “have the driving licence more” is not a natural way to describe rates. Spelling errors in “lisence” and “liscense” are noticeable, while “two categories namely age and sex” is imprecise because these are dimensions shown in the chart rather than categories of people. Use accurate collocations such as “the proportion holding a licence” and “licence-holding rates,” and vary the wording carefully. Correct spelling and more precise terms would make the limited vocabulary more effective.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Your two sentences are understandable, and the overview uses a contrast clause with “whereas,” showing an attempt to combine ideas rather than relying only on short statements. However, the range is limited, and there are errors in basic sentence construction. In “men holds,” the plural subject requires “men hold.” The phrase “people aged from forty to sixty nine have the driving licence more than others” is also grammatically awkward; a clearer structure would be “people aged 40–69 had higher rates than other age groups.” The second sentence contains several ideas but does not express the comparison precisely. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build a few controlled comparative sentences using “higher than,” “rose from,” and “while.”
