Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Full car driving licence holders: by sex and age
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The graphs show the comparison between two different eras including the percentage of people holding full driving licenses in Britain by their age and sex. In 1975/76, the proportion of women holding license is very low as compared to 2006.The chart shows that men in both period of time are recorded to hold license from teens to 70 and over. More than 80 percent of men had lisence from their 30s to 70s. It does not show any noticeable change. However, only 20 percent of women were holding license in their teens in 1975/76. The number increased to 50% by their 30s and shows a gradual decrease as they get older. In 2006, there is a significant change in trend as 80 percent of women were recorded to hold license between their 30s and 60s and became 35 percent as they became 70 or over. It shows that by passing time, society gets awareness and percentage of women holding license increase.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the broad contrast between the periods and report several relevant patterns, including the rise in women’s licence holding and the high figures for men in middle age. However, some comparisons are imprecise: men’s figures did change substantially in many older groups, such as from 35% to 77% among those aged 70 and over, so “It does not show any noticeable change” is misleading. The claim that more than 80% of men held licences from their 30s to their 70s also overlooks the lower 1975/76 figures, especially for the oldest group. Your overview would be stronger if it clearly stated that men generally had higher rates, while women’s rates rose markedly over time, and supported this with accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response follows a generally understandable order, moving from the earlier period to the later one and using contrast markers such as “However” and “In 2006.” This gives the reader a basic sense of progression. However, the information is presented as one continuous paragraph, and the sequence of comparisons is not consistently clear: the discussion shifts from men to women and then to a broad social explanation without a distinct overview or well-organised detail. Some links are also mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “as” to describe age changes. Separate the overview from the detailed comparisons, and group the figures by sex or by period so that each comparison follows logically.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main subject, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “trend,” and “significant change.” There is also some attempt to vary expressions for licence holding. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “holding license” is repeated, “recorded to hold license” is unnatural, and “by passing time” does not express the intended idea idiomatically. Spelling errors such as “lisence” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise chart language and consistent phrasing, for example “the proportion of women with a full licence” and “over the period.” This would make the comparisons clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “as” and “However,” and the main message is usually understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, especially with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries. For example, “the proportion of women holding license is very low” needs an article before “licence” and a tense consistent with the historical data; “percentage of women holding license increase” has a subject–verb agreement error. There is also missing spacing after the full stop in “2006.The chart.” Review articles and verb forms, and punctuate sentence boundaries carefully. More accurate control of these patterns would improve readability while preserving your attempts at varied structures.
