Full car driving licence holders: by sex and age
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The bar graph represents the how much individuals have driving license in Great Britian by their age and gender. Units are measured in age.
Overall, we can see that by both gender and age, male have a driving license more with them in comparsion with woman in higher percentage.
Looking in to the figures of bar graph, more than 80% have the driving license of the age group from 30 to 69 which are males. Moreover, age group from 17 to 20 of both men and woman have a driving license are near 40%.
Turning towards in to the figures of same bar graph, age group of above 70s shows a great difference in having drivivng license. As we can see that near 80% of the male have a license with them whereas, woman are only around 30% having license after the age of 70 and over.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify a broad gender difference and include relevant comparisons for the 30–69 and 70-and-over groups. However, the overview is too general and partly inaccurate: men do not have higher licence rates in every age group in 2006, since women slightly exceed men among 30–39-year-olds. The statement that both sexes aged 17–20 are “near 40%” also overlooks the women’s figure of about 33% and the historical comparison. Most importantly, the response omits the substantial changes between 1975/76 and 2006 across the age groups, so the main trends are not adequately summarised. It also contains only 147 words, below the required 150. Add a clear overview of the changes over time and support it with accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs presenting selected details. Phrases such as “Overall” and “Moreover” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, progression is limited because the details are not organised around a clear comparison of the two years, and the final paragraph repeats the same general pattern of comparing men and women without developing a fuller account. Some linking phrases are awkward or repetitive, including “Looking in to the figures” and “Turning towards in to the figures.” Group the information by key trends—for example, changes over time and the largest age-related differences—and use concise transitions to make the relationships between figures clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “age group,” “difference,” and “driving license,” so the topic remains understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are unnatural, such as “how much individuals have driving license,” “have a driving license more with them,” and “having license.” Spelling errors in “Britian,” “comparsion,” and “drivivng” also reduce accuracy. Use precise, natural expressions such as “the proportion of people holding a full driving licence” and “licence-holding rates.” Take care to use the task’s British spelling, “licence,” for the noun, and avoid repeating “figures of bar graph” when introducing each detail.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts a few complex structures, including “whereas” and “as we can see,” but sentence patterns are limited and errors occur frequently. The opening has an unnecessary construction in “represents the how much,” while “male have” and “woman are” show problems with agreement and plural forms. Articles and sentence structure are also unreliable in “more than 80% have the driving license of the age group,” which makes the intended relationship unclear. The sentence about 17–20-year-olds, “both men and woman have a driving license are near 40%,” is not grammatically complete. Practise building clear comparison sentences with a subject and verb, for example, “About 37% of men aged 17–20 held a licence in 1975/76.”
