Student answer (Band 6.5)
Substantial number of students are more likely to learn English independently by the means of self-study rather than participate in any course. However, particular section of learning materials require proper guidance of tutor to overcome the obstacles of understanding. In my opinion, students can learn many things with the help of media and advance technology by themselves but specific sections need appropriate instruction to follow which can ensure by a teacher.
In this modern era, students can attempt for self-study to practice English and acquire knowledges. Because there are lot of tutorials, videos, tips and tricks of learning materials available on social media such as Facebook, YouTube, play store apps. Moreover, many ai tools can provide effective information regarding study English through self-study. As a result students obtain sufficient capacity to study English at home by themselves with the use of their own mobile phones or laptops. This is also economical for those who struggle financially to purchase expensive teaching courses.
Despite the availability of educational materials in the internet, study alone has some disadvantages. Students can make repetitive mistakes in grammatical rules, tenses and pronunciations without realizing their fault. A qualified teacher can identify those mistakes and bring them to the right track. Moreover, teacher can motivate and guide with effective strategies which is essential to achieve their career goals.
In conclusion, although self-study is economical and simple with easily accessible guidance of learning English, a good teacher is simultaneously important to correct mistakes and provide essential instructions to improve and success in academic career.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: self-study is useful and affordable, but teacher support is needed for some areas. You address both sides with relevant points, including online resources and the risk of students repeating errors in grammar and pronunciation. This meets the task well, and the conclusion restates your balanced view. To make the response more fully developed, explain more precisely which aspects learners can manage independently and why particular topics require a teacher. The point that teachers help students achieve “their career goals” is relevant but broad; a specific example of feedback or instruction improving a learner’s English would strengthen the support. Your response therefore has a clear, relevant argument, though some ideas are less fully explained than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your view, the body paragraphs present the benefits and limitations of self-study, and the conclusion brings the argument together. Paragraphing is appropriate, and transitions such as “Moreover,” “Despite,” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships between ideas. To make the flow more flexible, avoid relying on these signposts to carry the connections; develop clearer links between claims and their explanations. For example, the move from online resources to affordability could be connected more explicitly. Some references are also broad, such as “those mistakes” and “which,” so make sure each pronoun clearly points to a specific idea. Overall, the organisation is logical and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “independently,” “qualified teacher,” “grammatical rules,” and “economical.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and you attempt more specific expressions such as “effective strategies” and “accessible guidance.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “acquire knowledges,” “advance technology,” “study English,” and “bring them to the right track.” There is also some repetition of “self-study,” “teacher,” and “English.” Aim to learn common word partnerships and check whether a noun is countable or whether an adjective has the correct form. These issues do not prevent understanding, but more precise and natural phrasing would improve the overall control of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “although self-study is economical…” and a contrast introduced by “Despite.” The main argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “Substantial number of students” needs an article, “there are lot of tutorials” needs a determiner, and “which is essential” does not agree with the plural subject “strategies.” The phrase “which can ensure by a teacher” also needs a passive construction, such as “which can be ensured by a teacher.” Review articles, subject–verb agreement, and clause construction, then proofread for punctuation around introductory phrases. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen your grammatical control.
