Student answer (Band 6.5)

Recently, there has been a concern over what way is best for students to study English language. I completely disagree with this idea, because learners can easily study through the help of the internet, and it is also cost effective. This essay intends to discuss the reasons for disagreeing with the idea before reaching a personal opinion.

Firstly, one of my strongest reasons in support of self- studies is that learning has become easy through the help of the internet. Most students has learnt thousands of courses through the internet, even England language through the help of YouTube and Artificial intelligent. For instance, most Nigerians has achieved a good band in English language through the help of AI, without using the help of a teacher. Therefore I strongly believe that one that study effectively without the help of a teacher.

Secondly, using the assistance of a teacher is usually cost intensive. This is a situation whereby students will need to pay for their courses, transportation to reach the location, handouts and textbooks, and so on, Most times enough knowledge are not derived from this type of settings. For example, most students fall their ielts exam because the teachers are not interested in ensuring that this student understands the basics they are just after the pay. Furthermore, I think unnecessary cost can be eliminated without the help of a teacher.

In conclusion, self-study has help to remove unnecessary cost demanded by the teachers and also through the help of Artificial intelligent students can learn effectively. In my opinion, I think the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout, arguing that self-study is superior to formal courses. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the internet and cost-effectiveness, the arguments lack depth and rely on generalizations, such as the claim that teachers are 'just after the pay.' To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced analysis or specific examples that demonstrate a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in self-directed learning versus classroom instruction. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, but the overall development remains somewhat superficial.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly,' 'Secondly,' and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear. For example, the transition in the second paragraph could be smoother to better link the idea of cost to the quality of instruction. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better pronoun referencing to avoid repetitive phrasing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'cost-effective,' 'intensive,' and 'artificial intelligence.' However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'England language' instead of 'English language' and 'fall their ielts exam' instead of 'fail their IELTS exam.' These errors do not impede communication, but they highlight a need for more precise vocabulary usage. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that words are used in their correct grammatical form within the context of your sentences.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'Most students has learnt' (should be 'have learned') and 'most Nigerians has achieved' (should be 'have achieved'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and pluralization, such as 'the help of Artificial intelligent' (should be 'Artificial Intelligence'). While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focus on proofreading for basic agreement and tense consistency.
