Student answer (Band 5.0)

I am highly disagree with this decision of the students who choose to study English independently on a self-study basis rather than attend a formal course.

Because according to me its a very difficult to learn anything without the assistance of any experience full person although English is tough language to learn. I think that the huge number of students who makes the decision to learn English on a self-study basis make ashamed on their decision because often they find that its very difficult task to learn English without any teacher.

For your kind information i tell you that i am also a English student and studied English from my respected teachers. And from the help of my skilful teachers it is very easy to me to learn English. Firstly, I try to learn independently but later i know that it is very hard task and almost impossible to learn English independently. So that's why i join the course where the English teachers taught me and I learn very well.

So, after when this happens i know that the students whose make the decision to learn independently makes very wrong and foolish decision. And after that they find that its really a wrong decision.

So that's why I am disagree with there decision However they have to join the English course classes near them and learn English well. Which is better for them to achieve the goal. The teacher is not only important in this the teacher is very important in any field of life if you want to succeed.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against self-study. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The arguments rely heavily on personal anecdote rather than broader analysis or logical reasoning. While the position is maintained throughout, the ideas are not sufficiently extended or supported with depth, leading to a simplistic discussion. The essay lacks a balanced view or a more sophisticated exploration of why some students might choose self-study, which is necessary for a higher band score. To improve, focus on providing more diverse arguments and supporting them with clear, logical explanations rather than just personal experience.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, but they are frequently inaccurate or repetitive (e.g., 'So that's why', 'And after that'). The use of referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of the argument. Paragraphing is present but does not always reflect a logical shift in topics. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, distinct focus that contributes to the overall argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and often repetitive, which limits the ability to convey complex ideas. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'experience full person' instead of 'experienced teacher' or 'makes ashamed on their decision'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express nuanced opinions, and the reliance on simple, everyday language hinders the overall quality of the response. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary to replace generic terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'students who makes', 'whose make'), incorrect verb tenses, and sentence structure (e.g., 'I am highly disagree'). The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some attempts at complex ones that are often faulty. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and ensuring that verb tenses are used consistently throughout the essay.
