Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays, most individuals rely on self study rather than formal course because they feel it is efficient and benefit for them. A large amount of students choose to study English independently on self study basis rather than attend a formal course. However, without the assistance of a teacher, students often find it difficult to manage their studies. This essay will argue that i strongly agree with this statement because students want the help of teachers to improve their knowledge.
To begin with, Students are focusing on self study rather than formal course. However, teachers are the real heroes for the students educational purpose because they have the knowledge to develop and improve the power and stability of students properly. For example, majority of the teachers are helping the students and clearing their doubts. So it is beneficial for the students without teachers they cannot study properly with brief explanation. As a result, teachers cannot be replaced by anything.
Furthermore, without the assistance of a teacher, students often find it difficult to manage their studies because students with less knowledge and skills cannot study alone, they will face different issues with academic sections. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of teacher-led instruction. However, the development of ideas is repetitive and lacks depth. While you mention that teachers provide 'stability' and 'clear doubts,' these points are not sufficiently extended with concrete examples or logical reasoning. The essay relies heavily on restating the prompt rather than exploring the nuances of self-study versus formal education. To improve, you should focus on providing specific, well-explained arguments, such as the role of structured feedback or the psychological benefits of a classroom environment, rather than repeating the same general points about 'hard work' and 'knowledge' throughout the paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. For instance, 'However' is used at the start of almost every paragraph, and 'As a result' is used frequently to link ideas that do not always follow logically from the previous sentence. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'students does not contain so much,' which makes the connection between ideas difficult to follow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good,' 'help,' and 'study' repeatedly. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'students educational purpose' and 'academic sections,' which sound unnatural. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more academic collocations and precise terminology related to education, such as 'pedagogical support,' 'autonomous learning,' or 'structured curriculum.' Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated synonyms will help you express your ideas with greater clarity and impact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'students does not contain'), incorrect article usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'it is efficient and benefit for them'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading your work to correct subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound before attempting more complex, compound-complex sentences.
