Student answer (Band 6.0)
A large number of students who want to learn English language choose to study independently instead of attending formal classes. But, the absence of a teacher make it harder for students to study effectively. In formal settings, students are oblige to follow the schedule and maintain attendance which eventually helps in developing interest in learning a language. However, student, himself know which area need more attention and spend more time on that area plus, this strategy is often ignored in a proper classroom environment. This essay will discuss the advantage of both self and group studies while suggesting that independent learning show better results if someone wants to learn a new language.
First of all, in a proper classroom setting, students are benefitted with the qualified instructor whose task is to help the learners in resolving the issues related to understanding English language. Teacher knows the rules of grammar, sentence structure and collocations and so on. With the help of an educator, students get to know the easiest tips and tricks to speak, write or read English. In this way, learning process becomes easier and attaining good scores are promised in some cases. For example, IELTs learners who take the help of a tutor often get good scores as compare to those who study independently.
In contrast, schoolchildren who watch vedios and download apps to understand the rule of speaking and writing English often have idea that what are his/her specific needs and weak areas. Not only do they focus on those areas but also they are allowed to do so in flexible times. These learners can take other courses or attend classes, in the meantime, they take out time to practice those weak points in learning English language. They are not bound to attend English class on fixed hours. For instance, many new apps and websites are getting popular these days rather than students enrollment in English learning classes which indicates that independent learning is appreciated.
In conclusion, learning a new language is a high-demanding skill these days and if it is learnt separately instead of being taught in a formal course then it show better results.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that independent learning is superior. The ideas are relevant, though the development is somewhat uneven. The argument for classroom learning is well-supported with points about grammar and structure, and the counter-argument regarding flexibility is also clear. However, the essay could be improved by providing more specific, real-world examples rather than general statements about 'apps' or 'schoolchildren'. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and does not fully synthesize the points made in the body paragraphs. Overall, the position is consistent, but the depth of analysis could be enhanced to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'In contrast', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as the use of 'they' in the third paragraph, which could refer to either the apps or the students. Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'collocations' and 'high-demanding', though some word choices are slightly unnatural or inaccurate, such as 'attaining good scores are promised' or 'vedios' (spelling error). The use of 'IELTs' (capitalization error) and 'student, himself know' (subject-verb agreement/word choice) indicates a need for more precision. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the sophistication and flexibility required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('absence of a teacher make', 'student, himself know', 'it show better results') and article usage errors ('the absence of a teacher', 'the easiest tips'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor slips throughout. The errors do not impede overall communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. More attention to basic grammatical rules would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
