Student answer (Band 5.0)

Introduction:

Many students speak and study english independently on a self- study basis rather than attend a formal course. Moreover without the assistance of a teacher, students often find it difficult to manage their studies.

I agree with the both statements that, one person who is vey intelligent and they learn english with there studies, On the other hand other student cannot learn english with there studies. They need a special teacher who learn english to a student.

Main body paragraph 1:

“A large number of students choose to study English independently on a self-study basis rather than attend a formal course because they are quite intelligent and can learn things easily." For example in a class all students are not have same sharp mind, some students are not so intelligent, some students are not sharp but they are hardworking and due to hardworking they achieve there goal, and also they study English independently and speak English fluently on a self- study basis rather than attend a formal course.

Main body paragraph 2:

“I understand the problem that many students cannot learn to speak English unless they take a special course.”It is just because they are not intelligent but if they work hard and try to understand english they can learn and speak English very fluently. For example there is a student who donot learn his test when we work hard take study seriously, and try to learn his test, Definitely his test is good and he is succeed in his test.In same case if a student try to learn english they can learn and speak easily.

Introduction:

In conclusion, although self-study offers flexibility and independence, many students struggle without proper guidance. Therefore, attending a formal English course with a teacher can be more effective for improving their language skills.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the pros and cons of self-study versus formal instruction. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The argument relies heavily on the concept of 'intelligence' as the sole factor for success, which is a narrow interpretation of the prompt. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments lack depth and relevant examples. The essay repeats the prompt's phrasing rather than paraphrasing it, and the conclusion introduces a new perspective that contradicts the earlier focus on individual intelligence. To improve, you should explore broader factors like structured curriculum, peer interaction, and feedback mechanisms.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is mechanical and often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'For example' and 'In same case'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the logical progression of the argument. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a clear topic sentence followed by supporting evidence. Improving the use of transition words and ensuring that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on the words provided in the prompt (e.g., 'study', 'English', 'intelligent', 'formal course'). There is a lack of variety and precision in word choice. Several errors in word formation and collocation are present, such as 'they are not have same sharp mind' and 'he is succeed in his test'. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary, including synonyms and more sophisticated collocations, while ensuring that words are used accurately in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'all students are not have'), sentence structure (e.g., 'one person who is vey intelligent and they learn english with there studies'), and punctuation. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some attempts at complex structures that are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Proofreading for common errors like 'there' versus 'their' is also essential.
