Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that a large number of students can learn English on their own, without being enrolled in a traditional language class. While, others claim that such students struggle in managing their studies. I agree with the latter view because teacher can make language learning easier and also creates a strong foundation of language in students.

To begin with, teachers can make learning a language very easier for students. The tutors can provide useful notes and assistance to students when they face difficulties while learning a new language. The teachers explains different facts and rules about a language in a very effective manner. This can lead to fun and effective learning. A teacher points out the frequent mistakes that his students make and provides solutions to correct them. For instance, while I first started learning English I was afraid of the language. But my school teachers helped me to overcome this fear by helping me in my language related difficulties.

Furthermore, teachers play a vital role in laying a strong foundation of language among students. Most students who learn a language by themselves often have weaker command over the language as their foundation in language is weak. They frequently commit errors in grammar, pronunciation and sentence structures. If they had a teacher who can aid them during learning, then the chances of such errors would be very less. For example, many renowned English writers, essayists and novelists often give credit to their language teachers for creating a strong foundation of language within them, due to which they were able to achieve success in their careers.

In conclusion, a teacher play an important role in students' lives, especially while learning a new language because he can make students learn in an effective way and helps in creating a strong foundation of language in them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments are relevant and supported by personal experience and general examples. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive; for instance, the points about 'foundation' and 'assistance' are mentioned in both body paragraphs. To reach a higher band, you should aim to extend your ideas with more nuanced analysis rather than restating the same benefits. The conclusion is a bit brief and simply summarizes the main points without adding a final thought or synthesis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive (e.g., repeating 'foundation of language' multiple times). The flow between sentences is generally smooth, but the essay would benefit from a wider variety of linking words to improve the sophistication of the progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication. You use some topic-specific terms like 'enrolled', 'traditional language class', and 'renowned'. However, there is a lack of less common lexical items, and some word choices are slightly simplistic or repetitive, such as using 'very easier' (which is grammatically incorrect) and 'very effective'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of academic vocabulary to express your ideas with more nuance and variety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For example, 'teacher can make' should be 'a teacher can make', 'very easier' is incorrect, 'teachers explains' shows a subject-verb agreement error, and 'chances... would be very less' should be 'much lower'. These errors occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of comparative adjectives to improve your accuracy.
