Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both self-study and formal courses. However, the position is inconsistent; the introduction and conclusion state agreement with self-study, yet the body paragraphs highlight significant challenges and argue for the benefits of formal classes. This lack of a clear, sustained position limits the development of the argument. While some points are relevant, such as the cost-effectiveness of self-study and the collaborative nature of formal classes, the ideas are often under-developed and lack specific, illustrative examples. The conclusion contradicts the main body, which creates confusion regarding your actual stance on the issue.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hampered by contradictory arguments. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However', 'Hence', and 'For example', but they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately, such as using 'Hence' to conclude an essay that argues against the very point you claim to support. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the progression of ideas between sentences is sometimes disjointed. To improve, ensure that each paragraph supports a single, clear aspect of your position and use transition words to link ideas more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choice, such as 'searching quality', 'correctness their fault', and 'learn wrong'. Some terms are used repetitively, such as 'self basis' and 'formal course'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary. For instance, instead of 'big trouble', use 'significant challenges', and instead of 'make correctness', use 'rectify errors'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The generation are covered', 'Formal classes runs'), article usage, and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'gives them to memorize and imagination power'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of semicolons and commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and pluralization.
