Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, a considerable number of students prefer to learn English independently rather than attend formal language courses. Although self-study provides flexibility and convenience, some people argue that students may struggle to organise their learning without the guidance of a teacher. I largely agree that independent study can be challenging, but I believe it can be highly effective when students are disciplined and use appropriate resources.

One major advantage of self-study is flexibility. students can choose when they want to study according to their people needs. For instead, a students who finds grammar difficult can spend more times in vocabs and practising grammer, while another learner can focus on speaking. In addition, the internet provides numerous learning resources, including educational videos, online platforms, language-learning applications and practice tests.

Likewise, individuals spend a lots of time in online applications but they never use dictionary to learn new vocabs, meanings and others general ideas they can generate quickly. They insteadly use Chat GPT platforms to learn new resources of learning, reading and writing. peoples are felling to much difficulties to translate those words instead of teachers while they know how to create minds setup.

In conclusion, although self-study provides flexibility and encourages independence, I believe that attending a formal courses with a teacher is more effective for most students. Teachers can provides them proper guidance and generate skills , correct mistakes, and keep learners motivated and disciplined. Therefore, a combination of self-study and professional guidance can help students achieve better results in learning English.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While the first body paragraph provides relevant points about flexibility and resources, the second paragraph is confusing and lacks clarity regarding the role of technology versus the need for teachers. The conclusion introduces a slight contradiction by stating that formal courses are 'more effective' after having argued for the effectiveness of self-study in the introduction. To reach a higher band, ensure that arguments are consistently developed and that the conclusion aligns logically with the points previously made.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, and there is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Likewise', and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow of ideas is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and logical gaps, particularly in the third paragraph where the connection between using online applications and the difficulty of translation is unclear. Referencing is occasionally imprecise, and the progression of ideas within paragraphs could be smoother. The use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical rather than natural.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of non-standard word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'people needs', 'insteadly', 'new resources of learning', and 'create minds setup'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding. While the student attempts to use a range of vocabulary related to the topic, the lack of accuracy in word formation and collocation limits the score. More attention to standard English phrasing and word forms is required.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('a students who finds', 'peoples are felling'), incorrect verb forms ('Teachers can provides'), and punctuation errors. These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text, though they do not completely prevent the reader from understanding the main points. To improve, the student should focus on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with pluralisation, verb tense consistency, and article usage.
