Student answer (Band 6.0)

I agree that a huge number of students who choose to study English, find it more difficult to self-study than studying with a teacher. In my opinion, students have the best motivation to self-study but they can't do it the right way without a good structure. Structure which is consolidated by a teacher.

First of all, a student tend to copy one particular studying mechanism which worked for him all the way along highschool or university. Which isn't quite right because when you study a new language, you need a strong base where to build up your vocabulary as well as the grammar. I agreed that in these days we have access to a lot of information, thank to internet and AI development, but with this 'motors' you have to start and drive them in the right way. So, even with all those tools, students can make huge mistakes when learning a new language.

In the other hand, you can know a language by grammar as well as a strong vocabulary but you've to practice speaking. We have two 'memories', an active one and another one which is passive. Most of the vocabulary is stocked in the passive memory, which it's quite hard to access in active speaking. Even more if you are a shy kind of student who's scared of making mistakes. Even if you aren't a shy person, you can get stressed out when you're trying to speak another language.

In conclusion, learning a new language with a teacher vs self-teaching, can make a huge difference even for a good learner.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed the prompt by expressing a clear position in favor of teacher-led instruction. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the importance of structure and the difficulty of moving vocabulary from passive to active memory, these points are not fully extended with concrete examples or deeper analysis. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not effectively summarize your main arguments. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph contains a clear topic sentence followed by a detailed explanation and a specific example to support your claims, which would help you reach a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

Your essay is generally coherent, and the progression of ideas is logical. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First of all' and 'In the other hand' (which should be 'On the other hand'). However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the idea of 'structure' in the first body paragraph and the 'active/passive memory' in the second is a bit abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'this', 'these') clearly points back to the intended noun.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'consolidated', 'mechanism', and 'passive memory'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'motors' to describe AI tools and 'stocked' instead of 'stored' when referring to memory. Additionally, there are minor errors in phrasing like 'a shy kind of student'. While these do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('a student tend to'), incorrect preposition usage ('base where to build up'), and sentence fragments ('Structure which is consolidated by a teacher'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While your meaning is generally clear, these errors occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency of the essay. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and avoiding sentence fragments will significantly improve your score in this criterion.
