Student answer (Band 6.0)

Most number of students choose to understand English by themselves on a self-study basis instead of attending to a formal course. However, without having teacher to assist them, students finds difficulty in managing their studies. In my opinion, i do agree with the statement .

On one hand , with the assistance of a teacher , students would be able to have a detailed explanation or understanding on how to manage their studies . When having a particular subject that student believe is of importance or of difficulty students may priortize understanding or studing the subject thereby negelecting other subjects that also part of their grade score . Therefore , with the assitance of a teacher , students would be taught on time mangement in other to cover up other subject whilst studing the one they are intrested . For example , teacher setting a timetable for students to use and study. In addition, preventing disstraction for students. Most students have a short attention span so if there is no supervision , they might devaite their attention to other things instead of studying such as games , movies and then pretending that they studied after.

However , it can put severe pressure on students. while their studying . Some student mode of understanding a subject is by reading alone after they have finished listening in the class or even reading from the comfort of their home .With teachers closeby students may feel pressured by the teachers critics and corrections and also several assignments and homework.

In conclusion, having the detailed understanding or explantation and also preventing distraction for students could be of importance of teachers assiting students in managing their studies , pressure on the students understanding could serve as a disadvantage.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding the benefits of teacher supervision (time management and distraction prevention) are relevant and supported with examples. However, the counter-argument regarding the pressure of formal study is somewhat under-developed and lacks specific examples. While the position is clear, the development of ideas could be more balanced to fully explore the 'extent' of the agreement. The conclusion summarizes the points well but remains slightly repetitive in its phrasing.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'In addition', and 'However' are used to link sentences and paragraphs. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as the transition between the benefits of supervision and the disadvantages of pressure. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure could benefit from more sophisticated linking words to improve the flow between complex ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choices and minor spelling errors, such as 'priortize', 'studing', 'negelecting', 'assitance', 'mangement', 'devaite', and 'disstraction'. While the meaning is generally clear, the repetition of basic words like 'students' and 'subjects' limits the lexical variety. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of common vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('students finds difficulty'), article usage ('having teacher'), and awkward phrasing ('Most number of students'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with unnecessary spaces before commas. While the student attempts complex structures, these often contain errors that detract from the overall accuracy. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical rules and sentence construction is necessary.
