Student answer (Band 6.0)

In contemporary society, learning independently has emerged as a highly debated issue. While a segment of people claim that it has led to a higher impact on the community, others strongly oppose this notion. From my standpoint, I disagree with the given notion because learning English under teacher supervision offers a significant amount of advantages.

To commence with, the compelling reason for supporting my viewpoint is that learning without any supervisors may lead to face severe problems. People make a frequent grammatical error while speaking in front of other people. Because they do not focus on the base of the English grammar. For example, tenses, which are basic building blocks of the English subject, and if students do not have enough grasp on their grammar structure, they will face severe consequences in the future. Therefore, a teacher's guidance should be the main priority for every individual.

Another noteworthy justification is that students are often preparing themselves for moving abroad for their further studies. Although giving exams of English for studying foreign countries is mandatory for everyone. In addition, they manage to learn by themselves while watching different online tutorials, but physically studying by professors will make their English more advanced and will boost your confidence level. For instance, the instructors will give you short tricks and techniques and enhance your vocabulary so that you can speak more fluently. Therefore, sometimes spending money on the education sometimes makes your life more flourishing and better.

To sum up, formal subject and English teacher guidance are very momentous for every students as ithey are the building blocks of English literature. Because they will make your initial stage more strong that you will have good command in this course. Independent learning has less valuable benefits as compared to learning with someone who is more proficient in this medium.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding the necessity of teacher guidance for grammar and exam preparation are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the discussion on 'online tutorials' is brief and could have been expanded to better contrast with the benefits of formal instruction. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, restating the main point without adding further insight. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explored with more specific examples or deeper analysis rather than relying on general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Another noteworthy justification', and 'To sum up' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as the transition 'Although giving exams of English for studying foreign countries is mandatory for everyone', which does not logically connect to the preceding sentence. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'they' in the final paragraph, which lacks a precise antecedent. Improving the flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'contemporary society', 'notion', and 'flourishing'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'learning without any supervisors may lead to face severe problems' (should be 'lead to severe problems') and 'the building blocks of English literature' (when referring to language learning). While the range is sufficient to communicate, the lack of precision and occasional awkward phrasing prevents a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'People make a frequent grammatical error' (should be 'frequent grammatical errors'), 'if students do not have enough grasp on their grammar structure' (should be 'grasp of'), and 'every students' (should be 'every student'). The shift in pronouns from 'students' to 'you' in the third paragraph is also inconsistent. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur with enough frequency to limit the score to a 6.0.
